Sustainability reporting in transport

Today, Koninklijk Nederlands Vervoer – Goederenvervoer (Royal Dutch Association of Transport Companies) signs in for the Organisational Stakeholders program of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). By doing so, KNV is the first employers’ organisation of transport companies worldwide that demonstrates its commitment to transparency, accountability and sustainable development.

KNV strives to promote corporate sustainability. Not only by word of mouth but also by taking concrete steps and measures. KNV’s accession to the Organisational Program of Stakeholders of GRI, this ‘cooperation of the willing’, is a first and major step in helping KNV-members to produce sustainability reports which are standardized, transparent and accountable. In this way our member companies can improve management of their business with respect for the environment and the communities in which they operate. A major goal for KNV is to reduce CO2 and NOX emissions by transport.

KNV is following the example of its prominent member TNT. TNT joined the GRI Organisational Stakeholders Program in 2004. Already 10 major logistics companies have enlisted to start as soon as possible with the sustainability reports, based on the GRI framework. KNV also encourages her member companies to join GRI.

KNV – Koninklijk Nederlands Vervoer (Royal Dutch Association of Transport Companies) is the employers’ organisation of companies transporting freight or passengers. Companies in the area of coach services, taxi transport, public transport like trains, scheduled bus services, trams, underground railways and freight transport are connected to the association.
